Using the League Mediator
Start Early
If you're looking to reschedule a game, reach out to the opposing coach as early as possible. Don’t wait until you’re close to missing the 5-day deadline for submitting a game change request—start the process well in advance.
When to Involve the League Mediator
You should contact the League Mediator if:
You’ve tried but can’t get a response.
If you’ve called and left a message for the opposing coach, assistant coach, or team contact and haven’t heard back within 24 hours, then followed up with an email and still got no response after another 24 hours, it’s time to bring in the Mediator. This process should only take a couple of days.
(Tip: You must be logged in to the YSSL site to view club contacts. If a phone number or email is missing or outdated, contact the YSSL office to update it.)
You can’t agree on a date.
If you’re getting responses but can’t settle on a time that works, or the other team isn’t replying quickly enough, reach out to the Mediator.
The other club refuses to work with you.
If they flat out refuse to make any effort toward rescheduling, you should contact the Mediator.
In any of these cases, use the Mediator Request button on your team page. Be sure to do this at least 3–4 days before the 5-day deadline to avoid running out of time.
League Mediator Request Button – How to Use
What to Expect from the Mediator
The Mediator may resolve the issue by:
- Choosing a game date/time/location based on the team schedules—even if it doesn’t fully satisfy both sides.
- Ruling the game will not be played and no points awarded.
- Awarding a forfeit win to one team if warranted by the situation or lack of response.
Important:
Do not email the YSSL office or copy us on emails to the Mediator. Once the matter is resolved, the Mediator will inform the YSSL office directly.
