YSSL Match Commissioner Program
Purpose of the Program
• Ensure a safe, respectful, and professional match environment
• Provide real-time support to referees, coaches, and clubs
• Serve as the league’s eyes and ears on the ground
• Reinforce YSSL policies, expectations, and core values
Match Commissioners (MCs) are neutral representatives of the league who help ensure matches are conducted the right
way—from arrival to final whistle.
What Match Commissioners Do
• Introduce themselves to coaches and referee crew
• Observe sideline behavior and match environment
• Support referees—especially developing officials
• Step in only when necessary to de-escalate
• Take detailed notes on significant events
• Submit a full report within 24 hours
This is about guidance and accountability, not interference.
